Inspired by unique materials that have origins other than in furniture creates new opportunities for Jiao Mo to demonstrate her design acumen. From traditional handcrafted materials to the emerging technologies she is the happiest when working with materials in one hand and a sketch pad in the other. Her most satisfying moments in design have been the successful melding of traditional shapes or materials into a thought or tactile provoking experience. Ultimately Jiao Mo believes that when well done, furniture becomes art. It is what drives her…from an obscure idea to the final installation...furniture as art.
